What an HVAC permit costs in Ohio

Fee Schedule effective July 1, 2026: HVAC replacement in RCO projects is $118.00 for the first unit plus $48.00 each additional unit where equipment is replaced or connected to an existing branch unit, and $93.00 for the first unit plus $48.00 each additional where equipment is added on a new branch circuit. New RCO installations are valuation based, starting at $102.00 for a $2,000.00 valuation. The $49.00 RCO application processing fee does not apply to HVAC repair or replacement applications that do not require plans.

HVAC permit fee schedule effective January 2, 2014: "One, two and three family dwellings: the minimum fee for any permit shall be $50.00". Installation of each central heating and/or air conditioning system is $50.00; repairs, alterations or extensions of central heating and/or air conditioning systems $50.00; each fuel fired unit heater, space heater or decorative appliance $50.00; each solid fuel burning device such as a fireplace, insert or wood burning stove $50.00; fuel gas piping $13.00 for each 100 lineal feet or fraction thereof. Add the 1 percent State of Ohio surcharge for 1, 2 and 3 family dwelling units.
