Report an error or send a correction
Found something out of date or incorrect? Let us know and we will check it against the official source, fix it, and update the verification date. Corrections from permit office staff are especially welcome.
This is also the way to reach us about anything else. Questions about reusing our open datasets, notice that a portal has moved, or a note that your jurisdiction adopts a new fee schedule next month all arrive here and all get read.
What happens to a correction
We open the jurisdiction's own page and read it. If it says what you say it says, the rule changes, the quotation behind it changes, and the date the page reports as last checked moves to today. If the official source still says what we published, we write back and tell you what we found and where, so you can tell us if we are reading the wrong page.
Occasionally a correction turns out to be bigger than one page. When a state statute we cited is wrong, the same claim is usually sitting on every page for that state, so the fix is a sweep rather than an edit. Fee schedule replacements work the same way: a county publishing a new schedule invalidates every fee we quoted for it.
What helps most
A link to the official page is worth more than anything else you can send. We will not publish a rule we cannot quote from a government source, so a correction that comes with one can be applied the same day, and a correction without one has to be researched from scratch before it can be used.
It is also genuinely useful to hear that something is missing rather than wrong. If your jurisdiction requires an approval we do not mention, or routes a trade permit to a state agency, a health department or a utility rather than the building office, that is the kind of local fact that is nearly invisible from the outside and that changes the answer for everyone who reads the page.
